DESCRIPTION:Overview\nLearn the secrets of growing ‘cool-growing’ Oncidiums \, with an exclusive workshop by the expert grower\, Jim Durrant.\n\n\n\n\n\nThis new exclusive event has been organised to offer a small group an opportunity to learn the secrets to successfully grow Oncidium orchids. The event will be on site at The Mathers Foundation nursery in our new learning space ‘The Orchid Pod’ and will start with light refreshments. \nDuring the masterclass you will learn: \n\nEssentials to successfully nurture your Oncidiums including compost/heating/lighting/watering and fertiliser;\nCommon pests/diseases and how to ensure your Oncidium thrives;\nDemonstration of potting on and also dividing Oncidiums;\nHow to stake and present Oncidiums for show;\nWhat to look for when propagating – essentials needed to make a successful hybrid;\nDemonstration of pollination and then of deflasking seedlings.\n\nLocated in Pulborough\, West Sussex\, The Mathers Foundation was established in 2019 to preserve and develop substantial collections of orchid species and hybrids\, supporting both ex situ and in situ conservation. It currently holds six National Plant Collections – Oncidiums\, Pleiones\, Stanhopeas\, Anguloas\, Masdevallias and Cymbidiums. \nThe Mathers Foundation is a not-for-profit charity and all tour proceeds are reinvested to support our conservation work both in the UK and overseas. \nParking is available on site and details of how to reach the nursery will be forwarded on booking. The nursery is close to Pulborough station which is the closest station by public transport. Taxis should be booked in advance to get to the nursery. If you need more information on location before booking please email: gill@orchid.foundation. \nDue to the size of the glasshouses masterclass tickets are limited to 12 people and entrance is by ticketholders only. The event may be filmed and photographs may also be taken which may be used for marketing. Friendly and knowledgeable members will be available throughout the day to answer questions\, share practical advice on caring for orchids\, and demonstrate simple techniques such as repotting. Orchids are often easier to grow than many people think\, and this is a great opportunity to pick up expert tips. A selection of orchids\, along with orchid compost\, will also be available to purchase. \nAlongside the orchid stand\, visitors can enjoy a wide range of flowers and plants from local nurseries\, as well as browse an assortment of stalls selling garden tools\, books\, cakes\, jewellery\, photographic prints\, cards\, and locally made jams\, chutneys\, and honey. Our Show is an opportunity to enjoy a greater variety of their exotic forms\, colours and fragrances. \nThe full programme is to be confirmed\, but as well as our Society stand\, we expect the following: \n\nIt’s not just the Suffolk Orchid Society who will be exhibiting – our friends from the Orchid Society of East Anglia will be coming down from Norwich to set up a display of their orchids too!\nOrchids in flower and suitable for windowsill culture will be on sale from visiting nurserymen – handy for Mothering Sunday the following day!\nSociety members will give repotting demonstrations and be available to advise on orchid culture.\nWe’ll be running a Tombola.\nDavid Mittell will be offering for sale his wooden baskets and other carved accessories.\nWe’ll have a stand offering for sale Guy William Eves’ botanical drawings (see https://www.guywilliameves.co.uk/).\nRefreshments\, including light lunches\, will be available at moderate cost.\n\nAdmission is £2.00. The Society can’t take card payments at the moment\, so cash only please. \nLast year\, the Show was very busy in the morning but less so in the afternoon – so consider coming after 1pm if that is convenient for you.

If you’re not yet a member\, you can find information on joining the Society here or just join on the day. \nDoors open at 1:30pm\, and anyone selling plants must register them before the auction begins at 2:00pm. Members are allowed to bring up to eight lots (or twelve for joint members)\, and can set a minimum bid or reserve price if desired. Please note that 10% of each sale goes to the Society. Cash payments are preferred on the day\, and full auction details are available here. \nCole Court has ample free parking and is a four-minute walk from Twickenham railway station\, so take this opportunity to beat the post-festive blues and expand your orchid collection!

SUMMARY:Devon Orchid Society Orchid Weekend
DESCRIPTION:Join members of Devon Orchid Society when they will be holding their Orchid Weekend at RHS Garden Rosemoor. Set in the stunning North Devon countryside\, the Garden features woodland walks with stunning autumnal colours\, a kitchen garden and a lake with waterfalls.  \nSee large displays of orchids by several orchid societies\, watch potting demonstrations and get tips and advice on growing orchids at home. There will also be a programme of talks over the weekend. \nThe RHS Orchid Expert Group will meet at 11:30am on the Saturday\, so any plants for submission need to be available as soon as possible in the morning. \nNormal admissions charges to the Garden will apply but free for RHS members \n			\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				Trade Attending\n			\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				A range of orchids will be on sale from Burnham Nurseries\, Laurence Hobbs Orchids\, Orchid Alchemy\, Orchid Botanics\, Spicesotic Plants and giving the event an international flavour\, Tropical Exotique from Thailand and Ecuadorquideas from Ecuador\, \n			\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				Displays By\n			\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				The following orchid societies will be displaying at the show\, Devon\, Cornwall\, South West\, Bournemouth as well as a collaboration between the Scottish and Darlington societies.
