About Us

The British Orchid Council brings together amateurs, commercial growers and the scientific community in a single forum.

 Membership currently comprises of about 40 organisations, mainly Societies.  Also, National Botanic Gardens with significant orchid collections at Kew, Glasgow, Chester Zoo, the Eric Young Orchid Foundation in Jersey, the Royal Horticultural Society, with its major collection at Wisley, and the Mathers Orchid Foundation.

The  main objectives of the BOC can be summarised as promoting and broadening the knowledge of orchids and encouraging excellence in their culture. Members of the BOC organise the International Orchid Show, which is part of the BBC GWL  Show at the NEC, and many societies support the event. BOC maintains a training programme for internationally recognised show judges, represents its members on the European Orchid Council and has a strong commitment to conservation.

The Officers collectively make up the Executive Committee, responsible for the management and control of the British Orchid Council, and are answerable to Council.

All must be elected or re-elected annually, at the Annual General Meeting of Council, subject to a maximum of three consecutive years of service for Chairman and Vice Chairman, and five consecutive years for Hon. Secretary and Hon. Treasurer.

All Officers must be delegates for member organisations.
